Ms. Joyce grew up in rural northern Wisconsin. She attended college at Montana State University and The University of Wisconsin Superior and Madison.  Her Bachelors of Science in Physician Assistant Studies was completed at Hahnemann University (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies was completed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.  Ms. Joyce has also obtained a certificate of additional qualifications (CAQ) in hospital medicine from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. At the time of certification, she was one of less than 50 physician assistants to be certified in the country. 

Since graduation in 1997, Ms. Joyce has clinically practiced medicine as a PA in many areas. She began her career at Erie County Medical Center, a level I trauma center in Buffalo, NY. She has practiced inpatient medicine in tertiary care (Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA), caring for patients admitted to neurology, gastroenterology, hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant services. She then provided care in family practice and urgent care for Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin and a rural hospital system in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. She spent a year in pediatrics prior to being recruited to Potsdam to help start the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Hospitalist Program in 2008. She continues to work as a hospitalist at CPH.

Ms. Joyce has been a preceptor to many students throughout her years in clinical practice and decided in 2012 to become a full time professor in Physician Assistant Studies. Her areas of interest are internal medicine, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, and emergency medicine. She especially enjoys teaching medicine through real life scenarios such as through problem based learning.

Ms. Joyce is nationally certified and licensed to practice medicine in New York State. She is a member of Canton Potsdam Hospital Medical Staff and sits on a CPH committee. She enjoys the out of doors, especially camping, cross country skiing, hiking, fishing and mountain biking with her husband, daughter and son.
