At the heart of the institution's educational and operational processes are fundamental values that define a common experience that shapes the growth of every Clarkson student, faculty, or staff member.

These values — Teamwork, Caring, Integrity, Visions, Diversity, Service, Growth and Diligence — have shaped the institution since its founding in 1896.

As Clarkson has evolved into a technologically focused research university of international stature, these values continue to guide the University’s ongoing evolution to excellence.

Among these values is Diversity, defined as the mutual appreciation of differences and a plurality of opinions, beliefs and cultural traditions inform and enrich our lives.”

Diversity, as understood here, encompasses aspects of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, and/or religious and political beliefs.

These differences find expression in unique perspectives and points of view that enhance decision making, problem-solving and idea generation  across the campus—in our classrooms, laboratories, athletic fields  and residence halls.

To support the personal development, professional advancement and future career success of our diverse, global student body, Clarkson is committed to integrating considerations of diversity into all aspects of campus life.   Our goal is to foster a campus climate that is dynamic, open and receptive to individuals and which invites a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions, dissent and discussion.

The implementation of diversity-related initiatives helps all students understand the inherent value of diversity within the Clarkson community, and, by extension, our wider world.
