Be sure to check our our new, dynamic hub for our Clarkson Writing Center -

Clarkson University is committed to ensuring our students and graduates develop twenty-first century communication skills. Our Writing Center is an important resource to that end. Our writing consultants assist student clients collaboratively to not only improve their academic, professional, and even personal projects and papers, but our goal is to also ultimately facilitate better writing for all involved.

How do we do that?

  • We offer one-on-one peer writing collaboration sessions scheduled in advance (ideally by appointment), or via walk-ins when available. See our Operating Hours, right.
  • We offer workshops and custom presentations that target specific genres and forms of writing as well as an array of important topics.
  • We are introducing in the 2016-2017 academic year KnightWriters, sessions open to the campus community that focus on using writing as a connection to personal, creative and even emotional topics such as “Place,” “Loss,” “Transitions” and “Love Letters,” among others.
  • Our CUwrite portal offers an array of resources, links, content and even instruction to help students improve their writing and ideally develop this critical skill.

Writing Center Sessions - Communication & Collaboration

If you're stuck somewhere in the writing process between invention and final editing, don't stress! We're here to help. Our consultants are on hand to assist you one-on-one with all your academic and related projects, regardless of your major or current skills. This includes essays, business reports, labs, résumés, personal statements, theses and dissertations, presentations, as well as articles for publication, to name a few.

Our approach is built on the model in which writing is viewed as a conversation. When you write, you enter a conversation with yourself, your readers, and the people whose work you reference in your paper (sources). You more than likely also talk about your writing: with professors, other classmates, even parents and friends. Our writing consultants are experts at talking about writing. By listening to your concerns and asking questions, our consultants can help you break through your writing blocks and express yourself clearly.

Come join the conversation!

Scheduling Appointments: Scheduled appointments are encouraged (use email link at right to schedule now), especially during busy times of the semester. Of course, walk-ins are always welcome, and will be seen as tutors become available.

What you will need: Please bring with you a copy of your assignment and any work you have started, ideally in print rather than on a laptop. If you are looking for information about citing sources or addressing common errors, utilize our online resources for assistance (Left Menu). Of course, feel free to visit us if your questions are still unanswered.

LOCATION:You will find us on the first floor of Bertrand H. Snell Hall in Room 139. We're tucked in the back corner next to the computer lab.
