Research Interests

Our research interest is the synthesis and materials applications of new functional polymers, bridging the fields of polymer materials and materials chemistry. Currently our focus is on ionic polymers, especially poly(ionic liquid)s, a newly  emerging class of functional polymers that are produced via the polymerization of ionic liquids. These polymers are useful building blocks for porous polymers and their membranes, responsive polymers and soft biomimetic actuators, as well as colloidal systems. They are also applicable in the production of porous heteroatom-doped carbon nanostructures of defined shape to be used in the energy and biomaterials field. The mission of our group is to advance and apply the fundamental knowledge in polymer science to tackle challenges in materials science.
