Potsdam, N.Y. - Amy Castronova of Webster, N.Y., president and owner of Novatek Communications Inc., has received the Woodstock Award and the Charles S. Ehrlich 56 Alumni Admission Award from her alma mater, Clarkson University. Castronova Receives Two Clarkson University Awards

Given each year during Reunion Weekend, the Woodstock Award honors young alumni who have demonstrated outstanding loyalty and service to Clarkson and the Alumni Association and who have used their Clarkson experience to make a notable contribution to their careers.

The Charles S. Ehrlich Alumni Admission Award was created in honor of 1956 alumnus and trustee emeritus Charles S. Ehrlich of Menands, N.Y. Ehrlich, a generous supporter of his alma mater, continues to serve as a key link between Clarkson alumni and admission recruitment activities.

Castronova was honored with the Ehrlich Award for her dedication and outstanding effort in assisting Clarkson's Office of Admission with the recruitment of highly qualified prospective students.

Castronova received her bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary engineering & management from Clarkson in 2004, with a minor in professional communications. While at Clarkson, she was a member of the women's club ice hockey team and soccer team. She was also president of Delta Zeta sorority and a member of Phalanx honor society.

Castronova purchased Novatek from her mother's estate at the young age of 20, and learned the ropes as she completed the last two years of her college degree. She earned the respect of Novatek's clients and staff and turned any fears or skepticism of her age into excitement.

With her management team, she has expanded traditional services with new technologies and tools to stay on the cutting-edge and offers more solutions to clients. In her first year after taking the reins full-time, Castronova diversified clientele, landed one of the largest contracts in the company's history, and increased revenue by 25 percent.

In recent years, Castronova has been named the Rising Star of the Women Presidents' Organization, an organization for women presidents of multimillion-dollar companies across the U.S. and Canada. In 2008, she was the recipient of the Region II, New York State, and Buffalo Small Business Young Entrepreneur Champion of the Year award from the U.S. Small Business Association. The award recognizes the accomplishments of a young majority owner and principal of a small business with a successful three-year track record.

Castronova is passionate about helping young women grow and gives her time and energy to share her experiences and lessons, and to coach other women. In spring 2009, she launched Young Leaders after identifying an opportunity in the leadership development of Rochester's graduating seniors. In one week, Castronova developed a year-long leadership course and raised enough money to offer the course to 15 local women free of charge. She also spends time giving back to her alma mater.

She serves Clarkson University as a member of the Clarkson Alumni Council and as an alumni admission volunteer for the Leadership and Achievement Mentor Program.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in six alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
