Clarkson University to Celebrate Constitution Day with Presentation by 9/11 Pentagon First Responder

In celebration of Constitution Day, Clarkson University alumnus Leo J. Titus Jr. of Ashburn, Va., president of the mid-Atlantic division of ECS Ltd., will address students this Wednesday, September 21, at 7 p.m. in the Student Center forum. The event is free and open to the public.

Leo J. Titus Jr. Titus was one of the first engineers on the scene at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. His efforts are detailed in the book Firefight, by Patrick Creed and Rick Newman. 

Titus has been a member of Fairfax County’s Urban Search and Rescue team (VA-TF1) for eleven years and was deployed as part of the search, rescue and recovery mission at the Pentagon.

In 2001, he was presented the award for “Outstanding Contributions by a Civilian Member” by the Washington, D.C., post of the Society of American Military Engineers.

Titus graduated from Clarkson University in 1991 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He holds a master of science degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Maryland and is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Mary Washington.

He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York and several other states. 

ECS, Ltd., one of the nation’s largest consulting engineering firms that specialize in geotechnical engineering, construction testing and inspection and environmental consulting. Titus has over 20 years experience in geotechnical engineering and special inspections. 

Titus is originally from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is married to Rosalie Titus, and has three daughters: Laura, Allison, and Kelley.

Constitution Day is officially observed on September 17, commemorating the day in 1787 on which the document was signed.
