Potsdam Runners Compete in 15th USAF Marathon

Twelve members of the Potsdam Runners Team went to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, to run in the 15th Annual United States Air Force Marathon on September 17, 2011.  The team is primarily represented by Air Force ROTC Cadets at Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam.

Matthew Choiniere, a junior at Clarkson, and Eric Lipski, a sophomore at Potsdam, completed their first Full Marathons—both finishing in under six hours.  The remaining team members: Amanda Brewer, Nicole Brewer, Ryan Carr, Justin Harrington, Brian Hume, Casey Lupini, Timothy Sick, Cody Stocker, SSgt Kevin Alexander, and Lt Col J.C. Notable standouts include Clarkson’s Timothy Sick who completed his half marathon in 1:20:01, finishing 24th of 4,666 runners, 14th of 914 active duty military members, 4th of 124 in his division (Males 20-24), and #1 Air Force ROTC Cadet.  Additionally, Clarkson’s Brian Hume completed his half marathon in 1:36:54, finishing 146th overall, 63rd of active duty military, 15th in his division (Males 20-24), and #3 of Air Force ROTC Cadets.  As a final note, Lt Col Sorensen, Department Chair of Air Force ROTC, completed his first half marathon at the age of 52 finishing in the top 44% overall.

The Potsdam Runners raised 100% of the money for their trip via numerous fundraisers over the past six months.  In addition to raising funds for the trip, they were also able to raise over $500 for the Wounded Warrior Fund.
