Lisa Legault Appointed Assistant Professor of Psychology at Clarkson University

Lisa Legault has been appointed assistant professor of psychology at Clarkson University.

Lisa LegaultA native of Peterborough, Ontario, Legault received her bachelor of arts degree in honours psychology, her master of arts in social psychology and quantitative methods, and her doctoral degree in psychology, all from the University of Ottawa.

Her dissertation was titled “Internalizing and Automatizing Motivation to be Nonprejudiced: The Role of Self-Determination in the Self-Regulation of Stereotyping, Prejudice, and Intergroup Threat.”

Before coming to Clarkson she was a visiting scientist at Defence Research and Development Canada in Toronto, where she worked in the effects & influence research group, socio-cognitive systems section, for the Government of Canada.

Legault spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Toronto Laboratory for Social Neuroscience at the University of Toronto.

She also served as a graduate student professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Ottawa, and a senior research coordinator in the Department of Psychology and Psychoeducation at the University of Quebec in Outaouais.

Legault's research interests are in motivation and emotion; self-regulation; social cognition, stereotyping, prejudice, & discrimination; intergroup dynamics; social affective neuroscience; and diversity & social justice.

In August, Legault was awarded a research grant from Defence Research and Development Canada for her work on intergroup dynamics. She will use these funds during her first two years at Clarkson to explore models of intergroup peace and conflict.

She has won multiple fellowships, awards and scholarships, including a Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada Visiting Scientist Fellowship and a Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship. She also won the Governor General’s Gold Medal for best doctoral dissertation at the University of Ottawa.

Legault has written extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including contributions to the top-rated academic journals in her field. She has chaired symposia, made presentations at more than 20 conventions and symposia, and has regularly given guest lectures or local talks.

Her professional affiliations include the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Canadian Psychological Association, Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, Association for Psychological Science, and Golden Key National Honours Society.
