Guangming Yao Appointed Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Clarkson University

Guangming Yao has been appointed assistant professor of mathematics at Clarkson University.

Guangming Yao She received her bachelor of science degree in mathematics and applied mathematics and her master of science in mathematics from Harbin Normal University, China, and her doctoral degree in computational mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Before coming to Clarkson, Yao was an assistant professor in mathematics at Rowan University. Before that, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

Yao's dissertation was on a localized meshless method for solving partial differential equations. Her research interests include numerical analysis, partial differential equations, biomedical modeling, engineering simulation, applied mathematics, parallel computing, optimization theory and applications.
She has worked on a variety of funded research projects in China, the United States, and Europe.

Yao has written or co-written 13 peer-refereed publications, and has lectured extensively at conferences and invited talks. She also has participated in mathematics conferences and colloquiums, and has served on committees. In January, she was the conference session chair for Numerical Analysis at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Boston.

Her honors include winning the University Doctoral Assistantship Competition at the University of Southern Mississippi; receiving the Innovation and Research Award from the University of Southern Mississippi; being selected as an Excellent Graduate Student in Heilongjiang Province, China; and winning the Outstanding Master Thesis award at Harbin Normal University.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
