Forbes: Clarkson University is One of America's Most Entrepreneurial Universities

The August 18 issue of Forbes magazine ranks Clarkson University in its top-50 list of "America's most entrepreneurial universities."

Student interns meet at Clarkson's Reh Center for Entrepreneurship. In the article "Startup Schools: America's Most Entrepreneurial Universities," Forbes ranks the nation’s most entrepreneurial research universities based on their "entrepreneurial ratios" -- the number of alumni and students who have identified themselves as founders and business owners on LinkedIn against the school’s total student body (undergraduate and graduate combined).

"This ranking is another testament to Clarkson's commitment and passion for leadership in entrepreneurship and innovation across our campus, the region and around the world," says School of Business Dean Dayle Smith. "Our school works with students from their first day on campus to build businesses, bringing together interdisciplinary teams in engineering, business and the sciences to collaborate on new initiatives in an entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our students build skills that they can use both as 'intrepreneurs' in a corporate environment or in their own start-up. We also work on a regional and statewide level through our Innovation Hot Spot outreach and START-UP NY to assist entrepreneurs."

The Forbes research complements Clarkson's own statistics that show that one in five of its alumni is a chief executive officer, vice president or equivalent senior executive of a company.

"This designation by Forbes is evidence of Clarkson's commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship," said Erin Draper, director of operations for Clarkson's Reh Center for Entrepreneurship. "The University has a rich history of entrepreneurial activity and the large number of alumni and student founders of businesses speaks to the quality of a Clarkson education. Our students begin their entrepreneurial journey as freshmen and continue it through experiential entrepreneurship programming in all four years. They are practiced in opportunity recognition and design companies and products to fill gaps in the marketplace."
Clarkson's Entrepreneurship Program is listed by Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine as one of the top 15 in the nation for 2014.

Clarkson has also been nationally recognized for its annual competition in which up to five young entrepreneurs or innovators have an opportunity to attend Clarkson without tuition through a combination of merit-based financial aid (after accounting for other aid for which the student may be eligible) and the acquisition by the University of an ownership interest in their business ventures.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world’s pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
