Clarkson University Physician Assistant Program Accreditation Continued

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to the Clarkson University Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Clarkson University. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards.

Physician assistant studies students Kirstie Nicol, Travis Callahan and Emily PeckAccreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review for the program by the ARC-PA will be March 2022. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.

ARC-PA is the national accrediting agency for all U.S.-based physician assistant programs.

Clarkson's Master of Physician Assistant Studies program was granted provisional accreditation in 2011 and admitted its first class in 2012.

ARC-PA has also granted Clarkson a class size increase to 30 students per cohort, from the current 20.

Physician assistants (PAs) are licensed health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with supervising physicians. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural, urban and suburban settings.

As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs prescribe medication, conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care and assist in surgery.

The Clarkson PA program is a 28-month course of study granting a master of science degree in physician assistant studies.
