Five Clarkson University Faculty Members Honored for Outstanding Teaching & Advising

Five Clarkson University faculty members were honored this month at a recognition ceremony for their excellence in the classroom and dedication to mentoring students.

Faculty Awards 2015Associate Professor and Chair of Communication & Media Bill Karis received the Outstanding Advisor Award. Each year students recognize a faculty member who has excelled at this critical academic responsibility.

Assistant Professor of Film, Humanities & Social Sciences Brian Hauser received the Outstanding New Teacher Award. This award recognizes teachers in their first four years at Clarkson, and students choose the recipients for their excellence in the classroom, capacity to inspire students, and creativity in teaching and curriculum development.

The Clarkson University Student Association members present the Outstanding Teacher Award each year to a professor who not only teaches, but inspires. The 2015 Outstanding Teaching Award was presented to Farzad Mahmoodi, professor of operations & information systems and Joel Goldschein '57 Endowed Chair in Global Supply Chain Management.

Susan Powers, the Jean '79 and Robert '79 Spence Professor in Sustainable Environmental Systems and associate director for sustainability in the Institute for a Sustainable Environment, received the Residence Hall Association Faculty Award. Chosen by students, this award honors a faculty member who exemplifies service, going above and beyond the call of duty to add to the prosperity and environmental health of the campus community.

Assistant Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Selma Mededovic Thagard received the Tau Beta Pi Faculty Award. Clarkson's NY-Theta chapter presents this award annually to a faculty member who has embodied and instilled in students the ideals of integrity and excellence in engineering.
