Clarkson University Professor Elected to Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Technical Committee

Clarkson University Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Burak Kantarci has been elected as the new secretary of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society’s Communication Systems Integration and Modeling (CSIM) technical committee.

Burak KantarciElected among the active committee members, Kantarci began his role in June and will serve as the committee secretary for the 2015-2017 term. At the end of the two-year term, committee secretary is elevated to the vice-chair position, and the vice-chair becomes the chair for the next two-year period.

Kantarci is expected to be elevated to vice-chair in 2017 and chair of the technical committee in 2019.

"It feels great because I've served in the IEEE Communications Society for a number of years as a volunteer," he said. "This is the first time I'm going to serve as a technical committee officer, and I'm very excited."

The technical committee focuses its activities on simulation, analytical tools and measurement of communications links and networks. It is concerned with the systems disciplines and modeling tools that facilitate the integration of information-transportation equipment, subsystems and networks into communications systems.

Kantarci said as an elected officer, he aims to encourage more involvement from Clarkson researchers who work in computer communications by nominating them for technical program committees of events sponsored by the IEEE CSIM technical committee. He said he looks forward to helping the community grow by publicizing more events and working with other colleagues in the Clarkson community.

"This will give me an opportunity to have more collaboration and more involvement with Clarkson faculty as well as students," he said.
