Towler Appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Clarkson University

Christopher D. Towler has been appointed clinical assistant professor of physical therapy at Clarkson University.

Christopher D. TowlerHe received both his bachelor of science in biology and his doctor of physical therapy degrees from Clarkson.

He is a licensed physical therapist in New York State, certified geriatric specialist, and is certified by the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy as an exercise expert for the aging adult. He also is an EMT-Critical Care licensed by the NYS Department of Health.

Towler brings hands-on experience as a physical therapist with specialized training and continuing education in issues related to aging. Prior to accepting this position, he worked in home care and at skilled nursing facilities in northern New York. He has taken professional development courses that focus on aging, dementia, exercise prescription, and mobility in acute care.

He has taught at Clarkson since 2010, working as a clinical lab instructor and small group tutor, and assisting with revamping cardiopulmonary courses.

Towler's clinical research experience includes a fall risk test for older adults, funded by the National Institutes of Health, and a study of the quality of life for patients in a rural population following cardiac rehabilitation.

As an advanced emergency medical technician, Towler has extensive education in management and pathophysiology of cardiac, respiratory, diabetic, trauma and all other life-threatening medical emergencies. He is also a CPR and first aid instructor, certified by the American Heart Association to teach the public, as well as health care professionals.

He has been a member of Potsdam Volunteer Rescue since 2003 and has been training officer there since 2009.

Towler is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the New York State, Cardiopulmonary, and Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy sections.
