Frank Schmeler Re-elected Clarkson University Trustee

Frank R. Schmeler '64 of Nassau, N.Y., retired chairman of the board and CEO of Albany International Corporation, has been re-elected to the Clarkson University Board of Trustees. He will serve on the development and finance & budget committees.

Frank R. SchmelerSchmeler received his bachelor of science degree in business administration from Clarkson in 1964.

His career spanned more than 40 years with Albany International Corp., the world's largest producer of paper machine clothing and high performance doors with manufacturing plants in 15 countries and sales worldwide.

Schmeler served as Albany International's chairman of the board from 2001-2008 and as CEO from 2000-2006.

He joined Albany International in 1964. Following assignments in sales and marketing for domestic and export, he served as vice president of marketing of Albany International Canada from 1976-1978. He was then appointed vice president and general manager of Albany International Canada and became the vice president and general manager for U.S. Press Fabrics.

In 1988, Schmeler was appointed senior vice president, with all European paper machine clothing operations reporting to him. He was elected executive vice president and chief operating officer in 1997. He served as president from 1998-2001 and as chief operating officer until 2001.

Schmeler serves on the foundation board of Wildwood Programs Inc. and volunteers for the American Red Cross.

He has also volunteered for the past several years at the Annual National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic held in Aspen, Colorado. He assists his son, an occupational therapist - assistive technology practitioner, with adapting equipment for the participants.

A native of North Bay, Ontario, Frank played hockey for Clarkson from 1959-1963, once traveling to the Frozen Four with a career team record of 51-20-3.

He and his wife, Wilma, reside in Nassau, N.Y. They are the parents of three adult children, two of whom are also Clarkson graduates.
