Clarkson University to Host New Cold Out Gold Out Winter Celebration Feb. 26 & 27

Clarkson University is combining classic Ice Carnival traditions with new celebrations this winter for Cold Out Gold Out (COGO).

COGOClarkson invites the North Country to join students and alumni for a COGO weekend of hockey, snow sculptures, outdoor ice skating, dog sled rides, fireworks and more on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27.

The men's hockey team plays against Harvard University at 7 p.m. on Friday in Cheel Arena, and the "Gold Out" pep rally and hockey game will be held Saturday in support of the Golden Knights as they take on Dartmouth College at 7 p.m. in Cheel Arena (#12 on the map at

This is the final weekend of home play for the men's hockey team. The women's hockey team will be finished with the regular season by this time and potentially in the quarterfinal series.

Clarkson alumni will also take to the ice for an alumni hockey game at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the outdoor ice rink on Cheel Lawn. Open skate hours will be held throughout the weekend.

While visiting their alma mater, alumni will welcome students and members of the community to join them for a series of professional workshops during Saturday's Leadership Expo. Clarkson Trustee Jean Spence '79, retired executive vice president of research, development and quality for Mondelēz International Inc., will kick off the event with a keynote address at 9:15 a.m. in the Bertrand H. Snell Hall atrium (#20 on the map at

Trustee Dianna Jones-Herrmann '85, global head of people in recovery and transformation services at McKinsey & Company, will present "Presence and Polish," and Bill Tansey Jr. '98, co-founder of HR Resolved, will present "Gauging Company Culture" at 10 a.m.

David Saums '77, principal of DS & A, will present "Negotiating Salary," and Cindy Hendrickson '83, university relations manager for General Electric, will present "Lean In -- Sponsored by General Electric" at 11 a.m.

Maggie Joy '06, senior manager of professional services at Coupa Software, will present "Workplace Obstacles," and Mark Voorhis '82, a regional operations and project manager with Bechtel Power Corporation, will present "Working Overseas" at noon.

Other Saturday afternoon activities include snow building projects, dog sled rides and an ice carving demonstration. The festivities continue into the evening, with fireworks over Cheel Lawn at 10 p.m.
