James & Joan Edzwald Endow Environmental Engineering Professorship at Clarkson University

Professor James K. Edzwald, chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Clarkson University, and his wife, Joan C. Edzwald, have generously provided a gift to establish the James K. Edzwald Professorship of Environmental Engineering. The gift will support a research program in drinking water treatment and recognize scholarly achievements in the field.

James K. EdzwaldDue to his research and expertise in water supply, drinking water treatment, and water chemistry, James Edzwald has had an impact on the design and operation of water treatment plants all over the world.

Clarkson President Tony Collins praised his accomplishments and contributions to the University, saying, “Jim has not only made Clarkson a better place, but has made the world a better place through his contributions. His gift will allow students to follow in his footsteps and create change for the better.”

Edzwald was a professor at Clarkson in the 1970s and early 1980s when he developed the graduate environmental engineering program. Prior to his time at Clarkson, he held positions at the University of Missouri, the Federal Water Pollution Control Administration in Washington, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Washington Aqueduct Division.

From 1984-2006, he was a professor at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) where he is currently a professor emeritus. He is a former president of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors and served on its board of directors.
