More Details on Clarkson University Military Appreciation Day, Sept. 10

Clarkson University will host Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 10, continuing its long-running commitment to veterans.

Military Appreciation DayAll veterans and the general public are welcome to attend this free event in the Student Center (#15 on the map at http://www.clarkson.edu/about/clarkson_map.pdf).

Military Appreciation Day is cosponsored by Clarkson University and the North Country Veterans Association with generous support from Mort Backus and Sons.

Veterans will have the opportunity to speak with wellness representatives at the wellness fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Syracuse VA Medical Center Virtual VA Clinic will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives at the event will include

•    Tricare, Public Health, VA Mobile Vet Center, Delta Dental, and St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center
•    Federal-State-County VA Benefit Agencies, VA- PTSD/Suicide Prevention/Health Care For Homeless, and Ft Drum Retirement Services
•    SUNY Canton/SUNY Potsdam/Clarkson University Fitness Centers
•    Homeward Bound Adirondack, St. Lawrence County Hospice, and St. Lawrence County Clerk
•    Syracuse VA Medical Center, which includes Massena Community Based Outpatient VA Medical Clinic, Veteran Lifetime Medical Record, My Healthy Vet, Telehealth, Women’s Health Care Giver Support, Employment in VA Health Care Center, and Assistance with enrollment in Veteran Health Care

A welcome and veterans recognition ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. A keynote address will be delivered at 10:30 a.m. by Retired Army Colonel Gary A. Rosenberg, former garrison commander of Fort Drum.

An entrepreneurship and business building networking session, featuring Clarkson's Reh Center for Entrepreneurship and Shipley Center for Innovation, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon.

The entrepreneurial aspect of Military Appreciation Day is designed to address the needs of veterans seeking employment, wanting to start a business, or wanting to expand a business they own. Representatives at the event will include

•    Adirondack Economic Development Corporation
•    Small Business Administration
•    St. Lawrence Co. Industrial Development Agency
•    St. Lawrence Co. One Stop Career Center
•    NYS Office General Services-Division of Service-Disabled Veterans Business Development
•    Development Authority of the North Country
•    Clarkson Reh Center for Entrepreneurship and Shipley Center for Innovation
•    Stephen Mathew Designs
•    Procurement Tech Assistance Center
•    Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families

After the event, faculty, staff and students, as well as members of the local community, will gather at Clarkson's World Trade Center Memorial Sculpture at 1 p.m. for Clarkson's annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.

John M. McHugh, the North Country's congressman on Sept. 11, 2001, and former secretary of the army, will address those gathered.

There are more than 47,000 veterans living in the North Country in Lewis, Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Franklin and Clinton counties.
