York Appointed Assistant Professor of Communication & Media at Clarkson University

Eric J. York has been appointed assistant professor of communication and media at Clarkson University.

Eric J. YorkHe received both his bachelor of arts degree in English with a minor in education and his master of arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing from the University of Maine. He received his Ph.D. in rhetoric and professional communication from Iowa State University (ISU).

Before coming to Clarkson, York was assistant director of ISUComm Foundation Courses and a lecturer in rhetoric and professional communication at ISU. Prior to that, he was a lecturer in English and assistant administrator for the writing program at Husson University. In addition, he has experience as online courses coordinator, project lead for ISUComm Sites and system administrator for IEOP Elearning, all at Iowa State University.

He has teaching experience from Iowa State University, Husson University, Kennebec Valley Community College, and the University of Maine, Orono.

His teaching and leadership awards include the Alice T. Ayerling Foundation Leadership Scholarship, Freda Hunke Endowment Grant Scholarship and the Graduate Teaching Excellence Award.

York has been recognized widely for his writing and research skills. He has been honored for best dissertation, best article in professional communication, first place for poetry, best research on a Maine theme and first place for fiction. Also, he has published academic articles in peer-reviewed journals.

In addition, he has expertise in writing for digital learning platforms. He is experienced in coding and scripting, database programing, system administration, and web development, among other skills.

He has made presentations at numerous conferences on relationships between technology and learning or writing. Some of his recent topics are “Digitally-Mediated Peer Review in Multimodal Composition Courses: Implications for Writing Pedagogies,” Conference of College Composition and Communication; “The Invisible Made Visible: Virtual Peer Review in the Writing Classroom,” Conference of College Composition and Communication; and “Learning Management Systems and Writing Program Administration,” Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing.
