Du Appointed Assistant Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Clarkson University

Yuncheng Du has been appointed assistant professor of chemical & biomolecular engineering at Clarkson University.

Yuncheng DuHe received his bachelor of science degree in automation from China Three Gorges University, and his master of science degree in electrical engineering from Donghua University in China. He holds two doctoral degrees, one in electrical engineering from Tianjin University in China and the other in chemical engineering from the University of Waterloo.

His research interests include uncertainty propagation and stochastic optimization, modeling, simulation and control of chemical processes, biomedical informatics, and supervision of manufacturing process operations.

His undergraduate teaching interests are in process dynamics and control, process economics and conceptual design, chemical reactor analysis, heat transfer in process engineering, probability and statistics, and numerical methods. On the graduate level, his teaching interests include process measurement and control, chemical engineering analysis, design of experiments and analysis of data, chemical reactor analysis, chemical process modeling, and optimization for biomedical systems.

Before coming to this position, he was research assistant as well as an instructor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His research involved control design and fault diagnosis for chemical processes, and modeling, simulation and optimization of bioengineering systems. He also investigated surgical treatment optimization of atrial fibrillation

He has written articles for professional journals and has made presentations on his work at conferences in China, Canada, the United States, Malaysia, and Norway.

His recent honors include a graduate studies office research travel grant and a doctoral student award from the University of Waterloo; and the outstanding dissertation fellowship, department of automation, Tianjin University.

Du has been an active volunteer for the 64th Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference, Niagara Falls, Ontario; youth homework program, Frontier College in Waterloo; and scientific outreach programs for The Chemical Institute of Canada’s and the University of Waterloo. In addition, he has been a reviewer for a variety of scientific publications and conferences.

He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, and Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.

Clarkson University educates the leaders of the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as an owner, CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. With its main campus located in Potsdam, New York, and additional graduate program and research facilities in the Capital Region and Beacon, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university with signature areas of academic excellence and research directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through more than 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, education, sciences and the health professions, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo and connect discovery and innovation with enterprise.
