Clarkson University Receives Support from Qualcomm

Qualcomm Incorporated has awarded Clarkson University a $10,000 grant to introduce Internet of Things (IoT) research projects to undergraduate and graduate level students.

Qualcomm Support 2016The first phase of the project resulted in a lab with state-of-the-art equipment for research in signal processing, sensor networks, wireless communications, and IoT. Research outcomes have been used for education at the K-12 and university levels.

The Wireless IoT Lab will continue to engage faculty and graduate student researchers, as well as undergraduate students, in research activities that will lead to the development of new algorithms and methods to address the core challenges of IoT and lead to the development of mobile applications to demonstrate proposed solutions.

The research at the lab will be directed by Courtesy Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Burak Kantarci, Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Mahesh Banavar, Courtesy Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering Melike Erol-Kantarci, and Paynter-Krigman Professor in Engineering Science Stephanie Schuckers.

Clarkson University educates the leaders of the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as an owner, CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. With its main campus located in Potsdam, New York, and additional graduate program and research facilities in the Capital Region and Beacon, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university with signature areas of academic excellence and research directed toward the world's pressing issues.
