Campus Committee on Climate and Engagement

In this Section

Clarkson University seeks to create an inclusive environment that values the diversity of our community, where individual talents and differences are accepted and celebrated. We are committed to advance an environment where each member is an active participant in creating and sustaining the community for which we all strive, and equity overall in the work and learning environment. Advancement will be measured by University engagement in activities and initiatives that promote a climate of inclusion.

Clarkson seeks to promote a community that respects and engages individual differences (e.g., personality, learning styles, and life experiences) and group/social differences (e.g., race/ethnicity, class, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, country of origin, ability, cultural, political, religious, or other affiliations) to build a more robust, inclusive learning and working environment. We continue to develop an inclusive community by enhancing what people know, how they think, and how they interact with others. We do this not only to improve our Clarkson Community, but instill the values of diversity in our community members so that they may promote inclusive engagement in other communities to which they will belong. The Climate and Engagement Committee will partner with and support other campus organizations to advance shared priorities and visions of inclusion and diversity on campus. Simultaneously, if the Climate and Engagement Committee finds gaps it may suggest the creation of new organizations, or take action to fill those gaps.

In order to ensure the achievement of the said mission, CU created the role of Chief Inclusion & HR Officer whose has the overall responsibility to leading the Inclusion efforts and the Climate & Engagement Committee to serve as the advisory and consultative body to Chief Inclusion Officer in all matters related to the mission. At the request of the Chief Inclusion Officer, the Committee may act as a Task Force and serve as the driving force, catalyst to drive or implement specific Engagement and/or Inclusion initiatives.

The Climate and Engagement Committee is an inclusive group of students, staff, and faculty from across the University, selected for their willingness to actively work toward the above goals. Individuals interested in joining the committee should contact the Chief Inclusion and Human Resource Officer.
